How to Use

  1. Choose a grid style: Tian Zi Ge (center cross), Mi Zi Ge (center cross plus diagonals), Hui Gong Ge (centered inner box), Jiu Gong Ge (thirds grid), or blank squares.
  2. Select a page size (A4 portrait/landscape, A5, B5, Letter), cell size, and margin.
  3. Columns and rows are set to "Auto" by default and are calculated from the page. Uncheck "Auto" to enter them manually; if they do not fit the printable area, the cell size is reduced automatically.
  4. Choose dashed or solid guide lines, line weight, border color, and guide color.
  5. Optionally enter a header title and enable the name/class/date line.
  6. The preview updates in real time. Click "Download PNG (300 DPI)" or "Download SVG" to save an image, or "Print / Save PDF" to open the browser print dialog.
  7. Click "Load sample data" to fill in a typical Tian Zi Ge image configuration.

Features

  • Five common Chinese writing grids: Tian Zi Ge (center cross), Mi Zi Ge (center cross plus diagonals), Hui Gong Ge (centered inner box), Jiu Gong Ge (thirds grid), and blank squares.
  • Automatic layout based on page size, margin, and cell size. Columns and rows can also be set manually; cells shrink automatically when the requested grid would overflow the printable area.
  • Configurable cell size from 12 to 30 mm, margins from 10 to 20 mm, three line weights, dashed or solid guide lines, and separate border and guide colors.
  • Optional header title and a name/class/date line make the output ready to print as a student practice sheet.
  • Export a 300 DPI PNG image (2480×3508 px for A4 portrait), a vector SVG, or print/save as PDF through the browser. The SVG uses millimeter units, so printing at 100% preserves the exact physical size.
  • Everything is generated locally in the browser; no content is uploaded.

Download the vector SVG, import it into layout software, add headers or organization information, and print in bulk.

FAQ

What is the difference between Tian Zi Ge, Mi Zi Ge, Hui Gong Ge, and Jiu Gong Ge?
Tian Zi Ge has a horizontal and a vertical center line. Mi Zi Ge adds two diagonals to that cross. Hui Gong Ge adds a smaller centered square inside the cell. Jiu Gong Ge divides the cell into nine smaller squares with two vertical and two horizontal lines. All of them help learners position strokes and balance character structure.
Are the printed cell sizes accurate?
The SVG is generated in millimeters. In the print dialog choose "Actual size" or "100%", not "Fit to page" or any scaling option. The printed cell size will then match the selected value.
Why did the cells shrink after I set rows and columns manually?
When the requested number of rows or columns does not fit the printable area, the tool reduces the cell size so the whole grid stays on one page. To use larger cells, reduce the row/column count, decrease the margin, or choose a larger page size.
How sharp is the exported Tian Zi Ge image?
The PNG is rendered at 300 DPI — 2480×3508 pixels for A4 portrait — which is suitable for direct printing. For unlimited scaling or professional printing, download the SVG instead.
Can I use the generated images for teaching?
Yes. The generated practice paper can be used for personal practice, home tutoring, and classroom teaching. The site does not restrict how the output is used.
Does it support pinyin columns?
The current version offers Tian Zi Ge, Mi Zi Ge, Hui Gong Ge, Jiu Gong Ge, and blank squares, but no pinyin band. If you need pinyin columns, download the SVG and add the pinyin area in a design tool.
