What is a normal reaction time?
Visual reaction time for most people is around 200 to 300 milliseconds. Trained athletes and gamers can reach 150 to 200 ms, and anything below 150 ms counts as extremely fast.
My results vary a lot between attempts. What should I do?
Reaction time is affected by attention, fatigue and device latency. Run 5 to 10 attempts and take the average, and test when you are alert for the most accurate picture.
Does my screen refresh rate affect the result?
Slightly. A 60 Hz display has a theoretical minimum latency of about 16 ms, while 144 Hz is around 7 ms, so a higher refresh rate gives a more precise measurement.
Can I use this to train my reaction speed?
It works as a reference point, though proper reaction training needs a more systematic approach. Using it regularly does let you track your progress over time.
