Features
- Converts in both directions, net to gross and gross to net, with a single toggle
- Six statutory rates built in (13%, 9%, 6%, 5%, 3% and 1% for small-scale taxpayers), switchable with one click
- Optional surtax calculation derives urban construction tax, education surcharge and local education surcharge from the VAT amount, and all three percentages can be adjusted to match local practice
- Batch mode takes one amount per line and outputs every line's detail plus totals for net, tax and gross
- Calculated entirely in the browser with nothing uploaded and everything cleared on refresh, so it is safe for confidential quotations
Use Cases
Working out invoice amounts
Convert a net quoted price into the gross invoice amount, or work backwards from a client's gross figure to the net amount for bookkeeping.
Checking a batch of invoices
Finance staff can paste a set of order amounts into batch mode and get the tax and totals for every document at once instead of applying the formula one by one.
Quoting as a small-scale taxpayer
Small-scale taxpayers invoicing at the 1% rate can quickly work out the gross quote and the amount actually received.
Estimating surtaxes
General taxpayers can estimate the month's urban construction tax and education surcharges from the VAT figure before filing, so funds are ready.
FAQ
How is VAT calculated, and what is the formula?
Net amount × rate = VAT, and gross = net + VAT. Working backwards from a gross figure, net = gross ÷ (1 + rate) and VAT = gross − net.
How do rates differ between general and small-scale taxpayers?
General taxpayers use rates such as 13%, 9% and 6% and can deduct input VAT. Small-scale taxpayers are normally assessed at 3%, reduced to 1% under current temporary relief, and cannot deduct input VAT. Always check the rules in force for the period concerned.
Why must I enter the urban construction tax rate myself?
That rate depends on location: 7% in urban districts, 5% in county towns and 1% elsewhere. The education surcharge (3%) and local education surcharge (2%) are uniform nationwide, so only the construction tax needs selecting, and the tool pre-fills the common 7% urban rate.
How many rows does batch mode handle?
There is no hard row limit. Put one amount per line, decimals included, and blank lines or non-numeric content are skipped automatically without affecting the other rows.
Are my figures uploaded or stored?
No. Everything is calculated locally in the browser, no amounts are sent to a server, and refreshing the page clears it, so confidential documents are safe.
