How to Use

  1. Type the angle you want to convert into the "Value" field
  2. Pick the unit that value is expressed in from the "Unit" dropdown (degree, radian, gradian, arcminute, arcsecond, quadrant or compass point)
  3. The table below lists the equivalent value in all of the remaining units in real time

Features

  • Converts between seven angle units: degrees (deg), radians (rad), gradians (grad), arcminutes ('), arcseconds ("), quadrants and compass points
  • Enter a value in any unit and the table shows the converted result for the other six at once
  • Everything updates live: changing the value or the unit refreshes the table immediately, with no button to press
  • Very small or very large results automatically switch to scientific notation so precision is not lost

Use Cases

Geometry and engineering calculations
Switch quickly between degrees and radians while working on drawings or mechanical design.
Angle conversion in programming
Trigonometric functions in many libraries expect radians, so convert the degree values from a design spec before writing the code.
Navigation and compass directions
Convert an angle into compass points for navigation, surveying and other direction-based work.
Surveying and drafting units
Traditional surveying expresses fine angles in arcminutes and arcseconds, which need to be reconciled with degrees and radians.

FAQ

Which angle units are supported?
Seven units are built in: degrees, radians, gradians, arcminutes, arcseconds, quadrants and compass points. Pick any of them as the input unit and the table lists the converted value for the other six.
How many degrees is one radian?
One radian is about 57.295779513 degrees. The tool uses that exact conversion factor internally and reports results to eight significant digits.
What are quadrants and compass points?
A quadrant expresses an angle in units of one right angle (90 degrees). A compass point is the direction unit used in navigation, dividing the full 360-degree circle into 32 points of 11.25 degrees each.
How precise are the results?
Results are given to eight significant digits by default. Values that are very small (below 1e-8) or very large (above 1e10) switch automatically to scientific notation to avoid unwieldy decimals and loss of precision.
