How to Use

  1. Enter the amount completed so far, such as records processed or data downloaded.
  2. Enter the total amount the task covers.
  3. Enter the elapsed time in minutes.
  4. Click "Calculate ETA", or simply edit any field to see the percentage, rate, remaining time, and projected finish time update live.
  5. Click "Load sample data" to see the calculation with a ready-made example.

Features

  • Calculates completion percentage from the amount done divided by the total.
  • Calculates throughput as units completed per minute.
  • Projects the remaining time from the current rate, shown as "Xh Xm" once it passes 60 minutes and as plain minutes below that.
  • Converts the remaining time into an actual finish date and time in your local time zone.
  • Skips the calculation whenever any input is blank, zero, or not a number, so you never see a meaningless result.

Use Cases

Estimating batch job progress
Halfway through a data import, download, or bulk process, enter what is done and how long it took to see how much longer you have to wait.
Reporting project progress
Use the work completed and hours invested so far to project remaining effort and a likely delivery date for a status update.
Waiting on renders and transfers
For tools without a built-in progress estimate, note the amount finished and the time spent to work out when the whole job will be done.
Pacing yourself in an exam
Enter the questions answered and minutes used to see how long the rest will take and adjust your pace accordingly.

FAQ

What happens if I enter zero for one of the fields?
If the amount completed, the total, or the elapsed time is zero, blank, or not a number, no result is shown. This avoids division by zero and other meaningless output, so enter valid positive numbers.
How is the hours and minutes format decided?
Once the remaining time exceeds 60 minutes it is converted into hours and minutes. Below that it stays in plain minutes, rounded to the nearest whole minute.
What is the math behind the estimate?
It assumes a constant rate: amount completed divided by elapsed time gives the rate, and the remaining work divided by that rate gives the time left. Uneven throughput will make the estimate drift.
How is the finish time worked out?
The calculated remaining minutes are added to the current moment, giving a specific finish date and time displayed in your local time zone.
